Lifetime All-Time Electoral College Votes

There have been 56 Electoral Colleges. 4 occurred under the old system (prior to the ratification of the 12th Amendment) where there was no separate ballot for President and Vice-President. Of those 4, one of them (in 1800) operated de facto under the new system.

In the 4 elections of the old system, there were 954 total votes made. In the 52 elections of the new system, there have been 43,920 total votes available (21,960 each for President and Vice-President). 18 of those votes were not made and/or counted (10 for President and 8 for Vice-President) for various reasons in 6 elections:

In 1820, 3 votes for Pres and 3 votes for a VP weren't made because the electors (1 each from MS, PA, and TN) died before the College met.
In 1824, 1 vote for VP was not done for reasons I haven't found yet.
In 1832, 2 votes for Pres and 2 votes for VP weren't made from 2 electors from MD.
In 1864, 1 vote for Pres and 1 vote for VP weren't made; an elector from NV (A. S. Peck) died between the November election and the December electoral college vote (thanks to Paul McClintock for this info).
In 1872, 3 votes for Pres weren't counted, as they were for the deceased presidential candidate Horace Greeley.
In 2000, 1 vote each for Pres and VP wasn't made, by an elector from DC, as a protest against lack of voting representation in Congress.

In addition of course there have been several so-called faithless electors. Among those:

In 1972, Roger MacBride from Virginia voted for the Libertarian Party ticket of John Hospers and Toni Nathan. This makes Toni Nathan the first woman to receive an electoral vote, not Geraldine Ferraro (thanks to Dallas Hays for this info).
In 2004, the absolute number of votes is correct, but one elector from Minnesota voted for John Edwards for both President and Vice-President.

184 men and 3 women have received electoral votes under the new system. 21 men and 0 women received electoral votes under the old system. 3 men, Charles Pinckney, Thomas Jefferson, and George Clinton, received votes under both systems. Thus, 205 people have received votes.
