Magnetic and Electric Interactions
Are magnetic interactions the same as an electric interactions?

A. Determine if each of the items listed below are attracted, repelled, or not affected by

• electrically charged T,
• electrically charged B tapes,
• the N pole of a bar magnet, and
• the S pole of a bar magnet

B. Do the items that are attracted or repelled from the tapes have anything in common?

C. Do the items that are attracted and/or repelled from the magnets have anything in common?

D. Classify the items into three groups based on their interactions with the magnet? Explain why you classified them that way? Are all metals in the same group?

E. To which group do magnets belong? Are all objects in this group magnets?

F. Based on your observations, is a magnetic interaction the same as or different from an electric interaction? Explain.
