Chromosphere

Chromosphere – The gaseous layer that is immediately above the photosphere layer of the Sun. The chromosphere is pink as seen peaking around the Moon in a total solar eclipse.

Shown in the image is the chromosphere of the Sun. The image is falsely colored, where pink is cooler, dimmer regions and black is hot, brighter regions of the chromosphere.
