Chicxulub Crater

Chicxulub Crater - The buried remnants of an asteroid impact occurring 65 million years ago that caused the extinction of the dinosaurs; the remnants are in a subterranean crater beneath the seafloor off the coast of the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico.

From gravity and magnetic field data taken around the impact site, this representation outlines the subterranean, sub-seafloor impact crater (see arrow).
