Binary Star
- One of the two stars that orbit around their common center of mass.
Shown is this Chandra space telescope X-ray image is the binary star system Sirius AB. The image is artificially colored black for cold regions, pink hues for mid-temperature regions, and white for hot regions. The largest white region in the center of the image is Sirius B, a white dwarf, whereas the white region to the upper right is from the location of Sirius A, a star like the Sun but twice as massive. The pink rays emanating from Sirius B are an artifact of the image processing and are thus not real.
