Old Observatory; New Technologies.
Nate Lust
The possibilities of updating an old observatory with modern technologies
to do worthwhile research will be discussed. With CCDs becoming smaller
and cheeper, it is becoming ever easier to do relevant science with
older telescopes. With minimal changes to mounts, it is possible to get
accurate pointing, and in some cases full automation. Also, with the
reduction techniques that CCD technology offers, it is becoming easier
to do science in locations with significant light pollution that would
have hampered photographic imaging.
