Motion Diagram with velocity vectors and acceleration

Example 1 (Figure 1-21 from Knight, Physics: A Contemporary Perspective)

Connect the dots in the motion diagram with velocity vectors to show the direction of motion and whether velcolity is increasing, decreasing, or constant. The construct the acceleration vector using the same technique we used to construct the vector Dv in class.

Since the vector a = ( Dv / Dt) and Dt is positive,
the vector a point in the same direction as Dv.
