Development of new techniques of measurement |

|
Understanding the quantum dynamics of SMMs with the use of microwave-optical spectroscopy and high sensitivity magnetometry is our main objective. For this, we plan to develop several experimental techniques that will allow the characterization of the quantum dynamics of SMMs as well as a complete study of the quantum tunneling properties under a wide range of experimental conditions. Some of these studies require the hybridization of different techniques of measurement, and will involve several graduate and undergraduate students during the next years (see laboratory). We are currently in the process of conditioning our lab space in the Physics and Mathematics Building at UCF. At the moment, we are negotiating with different providers in order to have adequate standard instruments for the projected research necessities. The lab’s basic instrumentation will be composed of the follow equipment: He3 (0.3 K base temperature) and He3-He4 dilution (0.03 K base temperature) Oxford Instruments refrigerators. The latter will expand the current UCF low-temperature capabilities down to 15mK. Two He4 isolated container incorporated with high magnetic field vector superconducting magnets, with the capability of applying magnetic field in arbitrary directions. These systems will allow parallel experiments in a wide range of temperature and magnetic field values. . |
